Zircon completely renovated the back wing of our house in Kings Heath in response to problems with damp and cold. They remodelled the ground floor, including enlarging the kitchen, moving the utility room and opening up access to the garden.
The entire wing was insulated using a mixture of internal and external insulation, and the original floor was replaced by an insulated floor with an underfloor heating system. Work included replacing all the electrics, removing a substantial chimney, moving internal walls, replacing windows including resizing brickwork, a new roof with Velux windows, new boiler, etc. Some work was provided by other contractors arranged by Zircon, including external insulation for the side wall of the house, tiling, kitchen fitting, etc.
We felt we had a good relationship throughout. Richard had provided an extremely detailed estimate up front and kept us up to date with costs as the work progressed. Zoe was also helpful in discussing the aesthetics of the design, providing suggestions for fixtures & fittings, etc, and advising on new double-glazed wooden windows to harmonise with the originals. The whole team were professional & reliable, keeping things tidy and generally minimising disruption to us.
Almost inevitably with the age of the house and the scale of the work, there were unexpected problems (such as a water tank under the kitchen floor and discovering that the first floor joists were supported by a piece of rotting wood!), but resulting actions were always discussed and agreed.
Access to the back of the house was through the neighbouring church, who wrote afterwards to thank Zircon for the way they had worked, and for complying with their requested ‘quiet times’ through the week. The project was completed on time, despite additional work, and we have been happy to recommend Zircon to multiple friends locally.
